To build upon iowa’s heritage
as kind and hardworking people

Our Roots

For those of you who don’t yet know me, my name is Drew Maifeld. I was born and raised in Eastern Iowa and truly loved splitting my childhood years between urban and rural homes. I graduated Iowa State University in 2007 with a bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture. That education expanded my worldview and brought new understandings of shifting ecosystems and our modern world. A world I was already deeply in love with. After 5 years of working with some of the most talented and professional landscape designers in the Midwest, I started landmatters.

Starting this business from scratch has been immensely challenging but also the most rewarding experience I could’ve ever dreamt of. I couldn’t be more grateful and am thrilled to carry on. Together!

Our VISION

As landmatters continues to grow and evolve, our projects will continue to elevate the standard of what people know to be possible.

That each spaces is delivered exceptionally well, and will always leave a story that can be shared with others. A story that highlights and celebrates the importance of how nature and our humanity can go together in harmony.

My plan is to help people appreciate and fall in love with their projects. To hear them share and re-tell others the stories we told them about “why this part is that way”. When we help them inspire others to notice and appreciate the world around them, there is as much potential positive impact in one small corner of their yard, as there is an any space on earth.

All it takes is for people to remember why this land matters to them, and to go on sharing that message.

Yet, perhaps my most heartfelt ambition, is to partner with other people who also “care a whole awful lot” to consciously design and develop a large section of farm land otherwise destined for todays standard urban sprawl practices.

We will set out to demonstrate just how phenomenal a community and its living landscape can be when the goals are set to be bigger than to simply to divide and profit. To create something that sings of Iowa’s heritage and inspires future generations to fall in love with this beautiful land.

Why Landmatters?

- deep care & regard -

Iowa is one of the most altered ecosystems on the planet, but you don’t have to look hard to see that the rest of the world isn’t much different. And while, our modern civilization has been focused on progress and living as if each individual does not make a big difference… or that things are just too big and to complex to turn anything around now.

We believe that what we all do—matters.

That our choices, our stewardship, and the stories we tell others make all the difference.

Perhaps we have nothing to worry about with business as usual, or perhaps we do, but one thing is for sure…
